Theory Page
In the next couple of chapters we are going to
explain the theory and
operation of what the throttle body spacer does for your engine.
Here we go!
The Throttle Body Spacer Kit installs between
the throttle body unit and
the intake manifold. This will first give the intake more cfm of
air. This
is just like putting a high raise intake on the old hot rod.
The Throttle
body spacer speeds up the incoming air charge in the intake. This
in return
gives you tremendous combustion efficiency. More air charge more
power.
Provides great torque, 12 to 15 horsepower and with a faster and
efficent
combustion burn it will increase your gas mileage by 1 to 2 miles
per
gallon. With todays gas prices we need it.
Now lets go into the differance between Chevys
TBI Engines 1986-1995,
And Chevys Vortec Engines 1996-2005. The TBI is Throttle Body
Injected
engines. The TBI unit has the injectors on it. The mixer of fuel
and air
happen right in the intake. This engine works best with a smooth
bore
Throttle Body Spacer do to swirls cut in the bottom of the intake
and the
balance cross over port in the intake. With a smooth bore spacer
you are
making torque tubes out of the intake that really speeds the air
up. Helix
bore that we have done and tested makes the engine have a
hesitation right
off idle. The other thing I see people doing is putting plastic
spacers on
to keep the heat off the TBI Unit. Now thats funny. The Intake
manifold
ports to The top of the Intake have water jackets around the
incoming air.
The heat helps with the burn of the fuel. that is why todays
vehicles run at
210 degrees. Better economy and fuel burn. If you want lots of
power take
the temp down to 160 to 180 degrees you will gain some more power
but by by
gas mileage. I like alittle more power and an increase in gas
mileage. I
want to save my money away from the gas pump.
Now for the Chevy Vortec Engine 1996-2005
The Chevy Vortec engine from 1996-2000 V6 and V8 uses what
is know as
center port injection. Another name for it is CPI. The injectors
are in the
center of the intake and has injector tubes that go down the
intake runner
to spray nozzels pionted down to the intake runner in the head.
This system you can gain more power by spinning the air as
it comes into
the intake do to it is open plenuim design and the air and fuel
starts to
mix in the head. More air more power.
The 2000 - present injection design went to multiport injection
where each
cylinder has an injector right at the end of each intake runner
going into
the head. Again more air forced into the intake the better
combustion
effeceincy is.
Alot of other manufacture us the multiport injection so the
theory is the
same.
Thanks for stopping in. Have a great day.
